Caitlyn Johnston
Dancer of the Year:  2018 - 2019

About Caitlyn

Caitlyn Danielle Johnston was born March 3, 2001. Always dancing and wanting to perform the decision was made to put Caitlyn in a Tap and Ballet combo class when she was just 4 years old. Caitlyn's one dance class over the years would evolve into as many as 20 hours of dance a week at Gotta Dance Academy where she has now danced for 14 years.

Caitlyn has competed on competition teams with Gotta Dance since the 2011 competition season. There are few who I'm sure still remember that shy, quiet Caitlyn who never spoke a word but danced her little heart out and would come alive with personality to boot when she hit the stage. Dance has always been Caitlyn's passion, and is part of her heart and soul. Caitlyn now has personality to boot on and off the stage, is by no means quiet, to know her is to love her, and dance has contributed to that as well as the amazing mentors Caitlyn has been blessed to not only teach her dance but about life itself.

Along with dance Caitlyn involved herself in school where she participated in Leadership all 4 years at Simi Valley High School.
Caitlyn is also extremely proud to be an original OG of the Simi Valley High School Dance Team where her freshman year it was only a club that grew into one of the most amazing High School Dance Teams in just 4 short years.

Caitlyn will attend Moorpark College in the fall where she will carry 16 units and work towards an Associates Degree in the Arts.
She will also continue to dance and teach dance as much as she can and figure out exactly how to get where she would like to be in the dance world.

Caitlyn's greatest accomplishments are winning Title in 2014 at Kar Regional Dance Competition with her lyrical solo Like a Prayer, winning Title twice her senior year at Applause Talent Competition and at Rainbow Dance Competition with her lyrical solo Letting Go and musical theatre solo Spanish Rose.
Also winning the only scholarship given at the 2019 Thunderstuck National Dance Competition.

Caitlyn would like to thank her family for the time and money sacrificed to support her love for dance.
She would like to thank Jen Horn for always believing in her and always being there for her all these years in all the ups and downs life has presented.
Becca Johnson for pushing her to be her best she can be and not allowing her to give up.
Miss Anasheh, her forever Angel, for teaching her to be herself and to never care what anyone thinks. For the saying Caitlyn now lives by "Darkness exists to make Life truly count," Joy and Ben Alvarez for providing the second home Caitlyn has known for the last 14 years, providing the mentors that have helped shape Caitlyn into not only the dancer but person she is today and for believing in Caitlyn and helping her continue to dance. And last but not least Caitlyn would like to thank her Mom who has always believed in her, has never allowed her to give up, encouraged her to be herself, and for always being her biggest fan!
